Materials Needed
- Yarn: Medium weight yarn in 3 colors:
- Yellow (flower center)
- White (petals)
- Green (leaf loops and border)
- Crochet Hook: 3.5 mm or 4.0 mm
- Tapestry Needle
- Scissors
Step-by-Step Instructions
Part 1: The Yellow Center
- Step 1: Using yellow yarn, create a magic ring. Work 6 single crochets (sc) into the ring. Slip stitch to the first stitch to close the round, fasten off, and secure the tail.
Part 2: The Green Openwork Loops
- Step 2: Join the green yarn to any stitch of the yellow center. Chain 12, then slip stitch into the very same stitch to form a tall loop. Slip stitch into the next stitch. Repeat around to make 6 green chain loops.
- Step 3: Work single crochets around each chain loop (approx. 14–16 sc per loop) to create a thick, firm leaf border. Slip stitch between leaves into the central base. Fasten off green yarn.
Part 3: The 3D White Puff Petals
- Step 4: Attach white yarn to the front loop/base of the yellow center inside one of the leaf spaces. Chain 3 to start.
- Step 5: Yarn over, insert hook through the leaf loop and into the center stitch, pull up a long loop (matching the height of the chain-3). Repeat this 7 to 9 times in the same space to gather multiple loose loops on the hook.
- Step 6: Yarn over and carefully pull through all loops on the hook. Chain 1 to lock the puff stitch tightly into place, creating a rounded 3D petal that nestles inside the green frame.
- Step 7: Repeat Steps 4–6 inside each of the remaining 5 green leaf frames to create all 6 white petals. Fasten off white yarn.
Part 4: Outer Leaf Edging & Finishing
- Step 8: Reattach green yarn to the outer edge of any green frame. Work a finishing round of slip stitches or reverse single crochet (crab stitch) around the outer perimeter of each leaf point to define the sharp leaf tips.
- Step 9: Cut yarn leaving a 10 cm tail. Using a tapestry needle, weave all loose yarn tails into the back of the work.
